Bagpipe Music? Does anyone know where can I find Military Bagpipe music, like the Edinburgh tatoo march.... I've tried limewire, but couldn't find anything.. Any bagpipe music will do... (Note: Not amazing grace nor Scotland the brave please)

Where can I find free downloadable bagpipe music? I need to find a certain song for a funeral by Saturday. I only want one song without buying an entire album.

Andrew L replied: "Try: You can buy a single tune for very little money. They are good settings reviewed by a Gold Medalist piper. He also includes a recording of the tune as well. Some of the free (and often illegal) settings you find floating around the Web are fraught with note errors—a result of careless conversion to digital format. Our band redid our tunes using sofware to match our revised settings and you'd be surprised how many errors crept in and we were being careful!"

Here is a site with lots of public domain (including traditional) tunes: There's a lot to be said for purchasing a good tune book though. Good basic books to have include the Scots Guards books, Volume 1 & 2 which include a lot of "standard" tunes."

Can anyone recommend some good bagpipe music? I love the sound of bagpipe music and wanted to purchase a few CDs.. Can anyone recommend any good bagpipe groups? I don't want any wierd fusion stuff, just some good traditional bagpipe music. I like the really sad funeral type music - dirges and so on - as well as traditional marches. Any recommendations appreciated. Thanks.

For pipe bands, I'd go with 78th Fraser's Flame of Wrath Cd. Anything by Simond Fraser Univ. , Schotts and Dykehead, or Field Marshall Montgomery. They're all good."

What's with the Irish bagpipe music at cop funerals? What if the deceased is Italian, or Jewish?

When the Irish and Scottish immigrated to this country, they brought many of their traditions with them. One of these was the bagpipe, often played at Celtic weddings, funerals and ceilis (dances). In the 1800’s, Irish immigrants faced massive discrimination. The only jobs they could get were the ones no one else wanted -- jobs that were dirty, dangerous, or both -- like firefighters and police officers. Anyone who has been to a funeral where bagpipes play knows how haunting and mournful the sound of the pipes can be. Before long, families and friends of non-Irish cops and firefighters began asking for the piper to play for their fallen heroes. The pipes add a special air and dignity to the solemn occasion."

ironbrew replied: "The pipes you nromally see are the Great Highland Bagpipe. Very few play the Irish Pipes although there are some sets around. (The pipes you see with the bellows under the arm are Uilliean pipes and are NOT played at funerals..most often in the pub.) They are played at firefighter and police funerals because the Irish and Scottish immigrants took the jobs on the fire dept. and police dept because they were the few jobs open to them. The tradition of having the pipes played at their funerals continue today. I once played for a black firefighter's funeral. Afterwards his family thanked me saying that the pipes weren't a part ot their culture per se, they really appreciated having the pipes played at the funerall...very appropriate in their eyes."

i need soothing bagpipe music for my wedding reception? i am looking for a cd i can just pop in while we take pictures etc. the wedding is st patricks day and the priest is irish so it will be a great touch.

If you want piping CD, you're going to get a variety of tunes. And, btw, I've had a Irish priest refuse to let me pipe out the couple after the wedding in "his church". His reason was he didn't want any rabble rousing pipe music period. I went outside across the street and when the ceremony was finished, a usher opened the doors and I started playing from across the street off church property. I'm saying this so you won't "assume" an Irish priest will like pipe music."
